Terms of Service

In force from 5 October 2026Version 2026-10-05.1

These Terms govern your access to and use of Traceless Writer. They are a binding agreement. Please read them in full, particularly sections 9 (No Refunds), 16 (Plagiarism Reduction), 17 (Notice to Educators and Assessors), 21 (Disclaimer of Warranties) and 22 (Limitation of Liability), which limit our obligations to you and allocate risk to you.

1. Acceptance of these Terms

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you, whether acting personally or on behalf of an entity ("you", "your", "User"), and Traceless Writer, together with its officers, employees, contractors, agents, successors and permitted assigns (collectively, "Traceless Writer", "we", "us" or "our"), concerning your access to and use of the website at www.tracelesswriter.com, any subdomain thereof, and every application, interface, application programming interface, feature, tool, model, engine, dataset and service made available by us in connection with it (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account, by indicating your assent through any checkbox, button or equivalent affirmative mechanism presented to you, by making payment for any plan, or by otherwise accessing or using any part of the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and irrevocably agreed to be bound by these Terms in their entirety, together with every document expressly incorporated into them by reference, including our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to any provision of these Terms, you must not access or use the Service, and your sole and exclusive remedy is to discontinue use immediately.

Where you accept these Terms on behalf of a company, institution, partnership, unincorporated association or other legal entity, you represent and warrant that you possess the requisite authority to bind that entity, and references to "you" in these Terms shall be construed as referring to that entity. If you lack such authority, you must not accept these Terms and must not permit that entity to use the Service.

Your acceptance is recorded

We record the date, time and version of the Terms you accepted against your account. Where we materially amend these Terms, you will be asked to review and accept the amended version before continuing to use the Service.

2. Definitions and Interpretation

In these Terms, unless the context otherwise requires, the following expressions bear the meanings assigned to them below. Defined terms appear with an initial capital letter throughout.

  • "Account" means the credentialled record created for you upon registration, through which the Service is accessed.
  • "Input" means any text, document, file, prompt, instruction, or other material that you submit, upload, paste or otherwise transmit to the Service.
  • "Output" means any text, score, classification, probability, highlight, annotation, rewrite, suggestion, report or other material generated, returned or displayed by the Service in response to an Input.
  • "Detector" means any feature of the Service that estimates the likelihood that a text was produced, in whole or in part, by a generative language model, and returns a score, verdict, per-sentence indication or comparable representation.
  • "Humanizer" means any feature of the Service that rewrites, paraphrases, restructures, re-registers or otherwise transforms an Input with the object of producing prose that reads as though composed by a person.
  • "Plagiarism Reduction" means the verifier described in section 16, which measures how much of your own submitted source text survives word-for-word into our Output and requires the Output to move further from it. It is not a plagiarism check, an originality report or a similarity service, and section 16 governs its scope in full.
  • "Plan" means a tier of access to the Service, whether free or paid, together with the allowances, ceilings, engines, levels and features attributed to that tier at the relevant time.
  • "Billing Period" means the interval, monthly or annual, in respect of which a payment grants access to a paid Plan.
  • "Allowance" means the quantity of rewrites, scans, documents, words or other metered units made available under a Plan within a stated window, whether rolling or calendar.
  • "Third-Party Provider" means any independent supplier whose infrastructure, model, service or software we use in order to operate the Service, including model providers, hosting providers, authentication providers and payment processors.
  • "Institution" means any school, college, university, faculty, examination board, professional body, employer, publisher, client or other body whose rules, policies, codes of conduct or contractual terms apply to your work.
  • "Applicable Law" means all statutes, regulations, ordinances, codes, judgments, orders, decrees and binding rules of any competent authority applicable to a party.

Headings are inserted for convenience only and do not affect construction. The singular includes the plural and vice versa. The words "include", "includes" and "including" are to be read as if followed by the words "without limitation". A reference to a statute or statutory provision includes that provision as amended, extended, consolidated or re-enacted from time to time. Any obligation not to do something includes an obligation not to permit or suffer that thing to be done.

3. Eligibility, Age and Capacity

The Service is offered only to persons who are at least eighteen (18) years of age, or who have attained the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence, whichever is greater, and who possess full legal capacity to enter into a binding contract. By using the Service you represent and warrant that you satisfy this requirement.

Persons aged between thirteen (13) and the age of majority may use the Service only where a parent, legal guardian or supervising Institution has reviewed and accepted these Terms on their behalf and assumes responsibility for their use. The Service is not directed at, and must not be used by, any person under the age of thirteen (13) in any circumstances.

You further represent and warrant that you are not barred from receiving the Service under Applicable Law; that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of, any jurisdiction subject to comprehensive trade sanctions that would render the provision of the Service unlawful; and that you have not previously been suspended or removed from the Service.

We may, at any time and without notice, require satisfactory evidence of age, identity, authority or eligibility, and may suspend access pending its production.

4. Accounts, Credentials and Security

You must register an Account to access most features of the Service. You agree to provide information that is accurate, current and complete, and to keep it so. Registration through a third-party identity provider is subject to that provider's own terms in addition to these Terms.

You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity occurring under your Account, whether or not authorised by you. You must notify us without undue delay upon becoming aware of any unauthorised access, use or disclosure. We are not liable for any loss arising from your failure to safeguard your credentials.

An Account is personal to the registered holder. You must not sell, rent, lend, share, transfer or otherwise make your Account available to any other person, nor permit any third party to use the Service through your Account, nor create an Account by automated means, nor register multiple Accounts in order to obtain Allowances beyond those attaching to a single Account. We operate automated and manual controls to detect such conduct and may suspend or terminate all affected Accounts without notice and without refund.

  • One natural person may hold one Account. Alternative addressing of the same mailbox, plus-tagging, dot-variation, disposable relays and comparable techniques, does not create a second person.
  • Credential sharing, whether commercial or informal, is a material breach of these Terms.
  • Circumventing, or attempting to circumvent, any Allowance, meter, rate limit, ceiling or entitlement check is a material breach of these Terms.

5. The Service, and What It Is Not

The Service comprises, principally, a Detector that estimates the likelihood that a text was machine-generated, and a Humanizer that rewrites text with the object of producing prose that reads as though composed by a person. The Service may also provide document handling, scoring breakdowns, style controls, referral facilities and such other features as we may introduce, modify or withdraw from time to time.

The Service is a writing assistant. It is not a professional service, and nothing it produces constitutes legal, medical, financial, academic, scientific, engineering, immigration, employment, psychological or other professional advice. No relationship of professional and client, of any kind, arises between you and us by virtue of your use of the Service.

The Service is not a certification, verification, authentication or attestation service. It does not, and cannot, certify the authorship, originality, provenance, novelty or integrity of any text. It does not check for plagiarism against any corpus of published work, and nothing it returns should be represented to any third party as evidence of authorship.

We reserve the right at any time, with or without notice, to modify, suspend, discontinue or impose limits upon the Service or any part of it, including any feature, engine, model, Plan, Allowance or interface, and to change the underlying models and Third-Party Providers on which the Service depends. Features described in marketing material, documentation or roadmaps are not promises, and no such description forms part of this agreement.

6. Plans, Allowances and Fair Use

Access is metered. Each Plan carries a stated Allowance, a maximum length for a single operation, a number of operations within a rolling or calendar window, a monthly aggregate word ceiling, and, on some Plans, a number of full-document operations. The Allowances applicable to your Plan are those displayed within the Service at the time of use, and those displayed within the Service prevail over any figure appearing elsewhere.

Allowances are personal, non-transferable and non-cumulative. Unused Allowance does not roll over into a subsequent window and has no monetary value. Nothing in these Terms entitles you to compensation, credit, extension or refund in respect of Allowance you did not use.

An operation that fails on our side does not consume Allowance; where our systems detect such a failure the metered unit is released. An operation that succeeds consumes Allowance whether or not you are satisfied with the Output. Dissatisfaction with Output is not a failure for these purposes.

We reserve the right to apply rate limits, queueing, throttling, degraded model routing or temporary suspension where usage is, in our reasonable judgement, automated, abusive, disproportionate, or such as to impair the Service for other users, notwithstanding that the usage falls within a stated Allowance.

The Student Plan. Where offered, the Student Plan may be bought only by a person who is enrolled as a student at a school, college or university at the time of the purchase, and who has verified through the Service an email address issued to them by that institution. One such address may be verified on one Account only. The Student Plan is sold for a Billing Period of one month at US$12 and is not offered annually. It allows rewrites of up to 1,300 words each, up to 25 in any rolling 24 hours, using the Stealth Lite and Stealth Pro engines only; no other engine or Plan feature is included. By buying it you confirm that you are so enrolled. We may at any time ask for further evidence of enrolment, and where it is not provided, or where the Student Plan has been obtained by a person who is not a student or by means of an address that is not their own, we may withdraw the Student Plan from the Account, and clause 9 applies to what was paid. Verifying an address confirms only that mail sent to it can be read by the person buying; it is not our approval of any use of the Service, and your institution's rules remain yours to know and follow.

We may vary Plans, Allowances, features and pricing prospectively. A variation does not affect a Billing Period already paid for, save where the variation is required by Applicable Law or by a Third-Party Provider on whom the Service depends.

7. Fees, Taxes and Payment

Paid Plans are payable in advance, in the currency displayed at checkout, for the Billing Period selected. Prices are those displayed at the moment of purchase. Access to the paid Plan commences upon our receipt of confirmation of payment from the payment processor and continues until the end of the Billing Period so purchased.

You are responsible for all taxes, duties, levies, bank charges, mobile-money charges, currency-conversion costs and other amounts imposed by any authority or intermediary in connection with your payment, other than taxes assessed on our net income. Where any such amount is deducted before the payment reaches us, the amount received by us determines the Plan credited.

(a) We do not collect or hold your payment credentials

We never see your card or mobile-money details

Payments are processed exclusively by Paynow. Card numbers, mobile-money credentials, PINs, one-time passcodes and comparable payment data are collected by the processor on its own systems and are never transmitted to, requested by, stored by, or accessible to Traceless Writer. We receive only a reference, a status, and the amount. We will never ask you for these details by email, message, telephone or through any support conversation, and any communication purporting to do so on our behalf is fraudulent and should be reported to us.

Your relationship with Paynow in respect of the payment transaction is governed by that processor's own terms and privacy policy. We are not a party to it and are not responsible for the acts, omissions, availability, security or decisions of the processor, including any decision to decline, reverse, hold or delay a transaction.

(b) Failed, incomplete and duplicated payments

Where a payment is initiated but not confirmed by the processor, no Plan is granted. Where a payment is confirmed but the corresponding Plan has not been applied to your Account within a reasonable period, you should contact support with the payment reference and we will investigate and, where the payment is verified as received by us, apply the Plan. That is the entirety of our obligation in such circumstances.

You must not initiate a chargeback, reversal, dispute or recall in respect of any payment properly made. Initiating one in respect of a Plan that was in fact provided constitutes a material breach of these Terms and entitles us to suspend or terminate your Account immediately, to recover the disputed amount together with any fee levied on us, and to decline to provide the Service to you in future.

8. Term, Renewal and Non-Renewal

A paid Plan runs for the Billing Period purchased. Access reverts automatically to the Free Plan at the expiry of that Billing Period unless a further payment has been received. We may notify you in advance of an approaching expiry, but the absence of such a notice does not extend the Billing Period and does not create any entitlement.

Where the Service offers automatic renewal, the terms of that renewal, including its frequency and the amount, will be displayed to you before you enable it, and you may disable it at any time from your account settings with effect from the end of the then-current Billing Period.

Upgrading to a higher Plan during a Billing Period extends your access from the later of the present moment and the end of your existing Billing Period; time already paid for is not forfeited on an upgrade. Downgrading takes effect at the end of the current Billing Period and does not give rise to any credit or refund in respect of the unexpired portion.

9. No Refunds

All payments are final and non-refundable

We do not issue refunds, credits, partial refunds, pro-rata adjustments or exchanges for any amount paid to us, for any reason, at any time. By purchasing a Plan you acknowledge that you are purchasing immediate access to a digital service, that access begins at once, and that you forgo any right of withdrawal or cooling-off period to the fullest extent permitted by Applicable Law.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, no refund is available in any of the following circumstances, each of which you expressly acknowledge is not a ground for repayment:

  • You did not use the Service, or used less of your Allowance than you anticipated, during the Billing Period.
  • You changed your mind, no longer require the Service, or purchased a Plan larger than you needed.
  • You purchased the wrong Plan, the wrong Billing Period, or purchased twice in error, save where our records show a genuine duplicate charge for the same Billing Period arising from a processing fault, in which case we will apply the surplus as additional access rather than repay it.
  • You are dissatisfied with the quality, style, tone, register, accuracy or length of any Output.
  • The Output was identified as machine-generated by any detection tool, whether ours, an Institution's, or a third party's.
  • The Output was identified as human-written by a detection tool and you consider that identification to be incorrect.
  • You were accused of, investigated for, penalised for, or suffered any consequence relating to academic misconduct, professional misconduct, breach of contract, or any comparable allegation.
  • Your Account was suspended or terminated for breach of these Terms.
  • You cancelled your Plan before the end of a Billing Period.
  • A feature, engine, model or Plan was modified, degraded, deprecated or withdrawn during your Billing Period.
  • The Service was unavailable for any period, whether by reason of maintenance, fault, outage, capacity constraint, or the act or omission of any Third-Party Provider.
  • You lost access to your Account through loss of credentials, closure of your email account, or your own deletion of the Account.
  • Your circumstances changed, including the completion of the work for which you purchased the Plan.

This section is a material term of this agreement and is a factor reflected in the price at which the Service is offered. Where Applicable Law confers upon you a non-excludable statutory right to a refund in defined circumstances, this section applies to the fullest extent permitted by that law and no further, and nothing in it purports to exclude any liability or right which may not lawfully be excluded.

Any voluntary accommodation we may extend in an individual case is made without admission of liability, does not constitute a waiver of this section, and creates no precedent, expectation or entitlement in respect of any other case or any future case.

10. Cancellation

You may cancel your Plan at any time, without giving a reason, from the Billing section of your account settings. Cancellation is effective immediately as an instruction and prevents any further charge.

Cancellation does not end your access immediately. You retain the Plan you have paid for, together with its Allowances, until the end of the Billing Period already paid for, at which point your Account reverts automatically to the Free Plan. This is deliberate: you have paid for that period and you keep it.

Cancelling does not produce a refund

Cancellation stops future charges. It does not repay, in whole or in part, any amount already paid, and it does not give rise to a credit for the unexpired portion of the Billing Period. See section 9.

You may reverse a cancellation at any time before the end of the Billing Period, in which case your Plan continues on its existing terms. After the Billing Period has ended, resuming a paid Plan is a fresh purchase at the price then displayed.

Deleting your Account is distinct from cancelling a Plan. Deletion is immediate, irreversible, and destroys your Account and its associated records. Deleting an Account during a paid Billing Period forfeits the remainder of that period and, as elsewhere, produces no refund.

11. Free Plan, Trials and Promotions

We may make a Free Plan or a promotional trial available. Any such offering is provided as an accommodation, is limited in Allowance, may be withdrawn, reduced, suspended or altered at any time without notice, and confers no contractual entitlement to continued availability.

The 7-day trial. Where offered, an Account on the Free Plan may buy one 7-day trial for US$2.50. For seven days from the moment the payment settles it allows rewrites of up to 1,000 words each, up to 20 in any rolling 24 hours, using the Stealth Lite and Stealth Pro engines only; no other engine or Plan feature is included. A trial may be bought once per Account and once per person, and not by an Account on a paid Plan. It does not renew: at the end of the seven days the Account returns to the Free Plan. The trial fee is a payment under clause 7 and, like every payment, is final under clause 9.

Free and promotional access is limited to one instance per person. Creating multiple Accounts, whether by alternative addressing, disposable domains, multiple identity providers, or otherwise, in order to obtain repeated free Allowance, is a material breach of these Terms and entitles us to terminate every Account concerned.

Promotional codes, referral credits and discounts carry no cash value, are not redeemable for money, and may not be combined unless expressly stated. Referral credits granted under clause 12 do not expire while the Account remains open; any other promotional credit expires in accordance with its terms.

12. Referral Programme

Where a referral programme is offered, participation is subject to these Terms and to any programme rules published within the Service. Referral rewards accrue only in respect of genuine, arm's-length referrals of new users who were not previously registered and who complete a qualifying paid purchase that is not subsequently reversed.

The reward is credit, not money. When a person who registered through your referral link completes their first qualifying paid purchase, five (5) rewrite credits are added to your Account. The person referred receives no credit for having been referred; they may earn credits under this clause by referring others. A credit entitles the holder to one rewrite once the allowance attaching to their plan for the applicable window is exhausted; all other plan limits, including words per rewrite, the monthly word ceiling, available engines and rewrite strength, continue to apply. A rewrite that fails to produce a result returns its credit.

Credits do not expire while the Account remains open, survive the end of a billing period and any change or lapse of plan, and are cancelled if the Account is closed or terminated. Credits are personal to the Account, are not transferable, carry no cash value and are not redeemable for money, refunds or set-off against fees. We do not operate a cash commission or revenue-share programme, and no payment is or becomes due to you in respect of a referral.

Self-referral, referral of Accounts under your control, referral obtained through spam, unsolicited bulk messaging, misleading advertising, trademark bidding on our name, or any other conduct we reasonably regard as artificial, voids all credits accrued, whether or not already spent, and may result in termination. Where a qualifying purchase is refunded, charged back or reversed, we may cancel the credits granted in respect of it. We determine the eligibility and value of rewards, and our determination is final.

13. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the Service lawfully, responsibly, and in accordance with the rules of any Institution to which you are subject. You must not use the Service, nor permit it to be used, for any of the following purposes, each of which constitutes a material breach:

  • To produce, disguise or disseminate material that infringes the intellectual property rights, moral rights, database rights, confidentiality or privacy of any person.
  • To produce, disguise or disseminate material that is defamatory, harassing, threatening, obscene, hateful, or that incites violence or discrimination against any person or group.
  • To produce or disguise child sexual abuse material, or any material sexualising a minor, in any form and for any stated purpose.
  • To produce, disguise or disseminate disinformation, fabricated news, fabricated quotations, fabricated citations, forged documents, false reviews, false testimonials, or material impersonating any real person or organisation.
  • To conduct or facilitate fraud, phishing, social engineering, identity theft, market manipulation, or any financial or romance scam.
  • To evade, or assist another to evade, a lawful obligation of disclosure, attribution, licensing or authorship.
  • To submit material containing personal data, special-category data, health records, financial records, credentials, or confidential information belonging to a third party, without a lawful basis and the necessary permissions.
  • To submit an Institution's confidential examination material, or any material you are contractually or legally forbidden to disclose.
  • To scrape, spider, harvest, reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, benchmark for publication, or otherwise attempt to derive the source code, model weights, prompts, heuristics, thresholds, lexicons or training data underlying the Service.
  • To access the Service by any automated means other than an interface we have expressly published for that purpose, or to circumvent any rate limit, authentication, entitlement check, captcha or access control.
  • To resell, sublicense, white-label, or make the Service available as a service to third parties, without our prior written agreement.
  • To introduce malware, to interfere with or overload our infrastructure or that of any Third-Party Provider, or to probe or test the vulnerability of any system without our prior written authorisation.
  • To use the Service in any manner that causes us, or any Third-Party Provider, to be in breach of that provider's own terms or of Applicable Law.

We do not monitor the substance of Inputs as a matter of course, and by design we do not retain them. Nothing in this section obliges us to review, screen, monitor or moderate any Input or Output, and our failure to detect a breach is not a waiver of it. Where we do become aware of conduct falling within this section, we may act on it, including by suspension, termination and, where required or permitted by Applicable Law, disclosure to a competent authority.

14. Professional and Academic Integrity

The Service is a writing tool. It can be used legitimately, to clarify one's own draft, to vary a monotonous register, to check whether one's writing reads mechanically, to prepare non-assessed material, or to work on text that no policy restricts. It can also be used in ways that breach the rules of an Institution. The difference lies in the rules that apply to you, and those rules are yours to know and to follow.

You are solely and exclusively responsible for determining whether your use of the Service is permitted by every applicable client engagement letter, employment contract, publication policy, professional standard, code of academic conduct, examination regulation and honour code to which you are subject; for obtaining any required permission; and for making any required disclosure of the assistance you have used.

We make no representation that the use of the Service is permitted in your circumstances. We do not offer, and will not offer, any assurance that work produced with the assistance of the Service will not be identified, investigated, challenged or penalised. We are not a party to your relationship with any Institution and will not participate in, adjudicate, advise upon, provide evidence for, or otherwise involve ourselves in any disciplinary, academic-integrity, grievance, appeal or disciplinary proceeding, save where compelled by law.

You accept full and exclusive responsibility for every consequence of your use of the Service, including any allegation, finding, sanction, grade reduction, retraction, dismissal, loss of accreditation, loss of employment, loss of a client, reputational harm or financial loss, however arising, and you agree that no such consequence gives rise to any claim against us.

In particular, no feature of the Service establishes that work is your own. The Plagiarism Reduction verifier does not check your text against any external source and cannot tell you whether what you submitted was taken from somebody else; section 16 sets out exactly what it does and does not do, and should be read together with this section.

15. The Nature of AI Detection

AI detection is inherently probabilistic. A detector, ours or anyone else's, does not observe how a text was written. It measures statistical properties of the text, such as the predictability of word choice, the variation in sentence length and structure, and the distribution of stylistic features, and compares them against patterns associated with machine-generated and human-written prose. From that comparison it infers a likelihood. It does not, and cannot, produce a fact about authorship.

It follows that detection is subject to error in both directions, and that those errors are not rare, not evenly distributed, and not always explicable:

  • False positives. Human-written text is frequently flagged as machine-generated. This is markedly more likely where the writer composes in plain, structured, formal or technical prose; where the writer is writing in a second or additional language; where the text is short; where the subject matter constrains vocabulary, as in scientific, legal, medical or procedural writing; where the writer is neurodivergent; or where the writer has been taught to write to a rigid template.
  • False negatives. Machine-generated text is frequently not flagged, particularly where it has been edited, paraphrased, translated, or produced by a newer or differently configured model.
  • Instability over time. Language models, detection methods and the statistical baselines they rely upon change continuously. A text scored one way today may be scored differently tomorrow by the same tool without any change to the text.
  • Disagreement between tools. Different detectors routinely return materially different, and sometimes opposite, results for the same text. There is no accepted standard, no accepted benchmark, and no authority that reconciles them.

Accordingly, no score, verdict, percentage, highlight or report produced by the Service is, or should be represented as, evidence of how a text was written. It is an estimate produced by a statistical instrument, and it should be treated with the caution appropriate to one.

16. Plagiarism Reduction: What It Does and Does Not Do

We do not take, hold or alter anybody else's work

The Service operates on one thing only: the text you yourself submit. We do not maintain, index, ingest, license, copy, alter, redistribute, resell or claim ownership of any other person's writing, and we hold no corpus, archive, repository or database of third-party work of any kind. There is nothing of anyone else's inside this Service for it to take from, and nothing of anyone else's is changed by your use of it.

Where your Plan includes it, plagiarism reduction is a verifier applied to our own Output. It compares the rewrite we are about to return to you against the source text that you supplied, and requires that no long run of consecutive words of ordinary prose survives verbatim from the one into the other. Where such a run is found, the passage is rebuilt and the check is repeated. Runs carrying a figure, a date, a measurement or a proper noun are allowed a longer span, deliberately and on principle: a verifier that insisted those be reworded would be a verifier that rewarded the falsification of data, and we would rather carry a quoted statistic than a corrupted one.

That is the entire mechanism. It is a measurement of the distance between two texts that are both already in your possession, and it is described here in full so that no user, and no Institution reading this over a user's shoulder, is left to infer a larger claim from the name of the feature.

(a) What it is not, and cannot be

Plagiarism reduction is not a plagiarism check, an originality report, a similarity index, or a source-detection service, and it must not be described, relied upon or presented to any third party as one. Specifically, and without limitation:

  • It does not compare your text against the internet, against any published corpus, journal, book, thesis repository, institutional archive, or against the index of any originality-checking or similarity-detection service.
  • It cannot tell you whether the text you submitted was itself taken from somewhere else. It has nothing external to compare it against, and it does not look.
  • It does not identify, locate, attribute, flag, quarantine or remove third-party material within your Input. The Service has no means of knowing which words in what you submit are yours and which are not, and it does not attempt to find out.
  • It produces no similarity percentage, no source list, no match report and no certification, and nothing it returns is evidence of the originality, authorship or provenance of anything.
  • A reduction in verbatim overlap between two texts is a mechanical property of prose. It is not a finding about authorship, ownership, originality or integrity, and it does not become one by being measured.

(b) Rewriting copied material does not cure plagiarism

Paraphrasing someone else's work is still plagiarism

If material you submit was taken from another person, the Output remains that person's work in substance, and presenting it as your own remains plagiarism. Most Institutions treat a rewritten copy more severely than a verbatim one, not less, because the rewriting evidences an intention to conceal. The Service will not detect that this has happened, will not warn you, and cannot prevent it. This is stated here plainly and in advance so that no user may afterwards say they understood the feature to do otherwise.

The purpose of plagiarism reduction is to stop our own rewrite from carrying your source's word order into its output, which is a quality property of the rewrite. It is not, and is not offered as, a means of laundering material you were not entitled to use.

(c) Attribution, citation and permission are unaffected

Nothing the Service does alters, satisfies, discharges, reduces or substitutes for any obligation you owe to attribute a source, to cite accurately, to quote faithfully, to obtain permission, to comply with the terms of a licence, or to disclose the assistance you have used. Paraphrasing a source does not remove the duty to cite it. Rewriting material in which copyright subsists does not create a licence to use that material, and the Output may itself be a derivative work whose use requires the rights holder's permission. Those obligations are yours alone, they survive every transformation the Service performs, and we neither assume nor share them.

(d) What you are representing when you use it

Each time you submit an Input, and each time you enable plagiarism reduction, you represent and warrant that the Input is your own original work, or is material you are lawfully entitled to possess, to submit and to modify, and that its submission and transformation breaches no copyright, moral right, licence, contract, duty of confidence or Institutional rule binding upon you. We rely on that representation, we have no practical means of verifying it, and we do not attempt to.

(e) No warranty as to outcome

We give no warranty, and you must not assume, that Output processed with plagiarism reduction will achieve any particular similarity score in any third-party tool, will fall below any Institution's threshold, will be accepted by any examiner, editor, publisher or client, or will avoid any allegation of misconduct. Sections 21 and 22 apply to this feature in full, and the responsibility described in sections 14 and 17 is undiminished by it.

17. Notice to Educators, Institutions and Assessors

Do not penalise a student on the basis of a detection score

No output of this Service: and, in our view, no output of any comparable service, is a sufficient basis on which to accuse, penalise, downgrade, fail, sanction, refer or otherwise act against any student, employee, author or other person. Detection is probabilistic, error-prone in both directions, and changes as the underlying models change. A score is a prompt to look further. It is never a finding.

This notice is addressed to teachers, lecturers, supervisors, examiners, academic-integrity officers, editors, employers and any other person who may be shown a result produced by the Service. We ask that it be read and observed.

  • A detection score is not evidence. It is a statistical estimate about text, produced without any observation of the process by which the text was written.
  • The measured error rate of AI detection is material, and false positives fall disproportionately on writers using English as an additional language, on neurodivergent writers, on writers of technical and formulaic prose, and on short submissions.
  • The field changes continuously. Models are retrained, detectors are recalibrated, and thresholds move. A result is a snapshot of a moving system and cannot be reproduced reliably even by the same tool.
  • No threshold, however high, converts a probability into proof. A score of ninety-nine per cent is a statement about statistical resemblance, not about a person.
  • Where a concern arises, it should be pursued through the ordinary means of academic and professional inquiry, examination of drafts and version history, discussion with the author about the substance of the work, viva or oral defence, and consideration of the author's established voice, and never by reference to a score alone.
  • The burden of establishing misconduct rests with the Institution and is not discharged by a tool.

We do not provide, and will not provide, evidentiary certification, expert testimony, forensic reports or authentication of any kind for use in any academic, disciplinary, employment or legal proceeding. Any use of the Service by an Institution for adjudicative purposes is at that Institution's own risk and entirely on its own responsibility, and we disclaim all liability arising from any decision taken by any person in reliance on any Output. If you are an Institution and your process would place decisive weight on a score, our position is that you should not use this Service for that purpose.

18. Your Input, and the Licence You Grant

As between you and us, you retain all right, title and interest in your Input. We claim no ownership of it.

You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, transmit, process, transform and display your Input and the resulting Output strictly to the extent necessary to operate the Service and to return the Output to you, and for no other purpose. That licence subsists only for the duration of the processing and terminates upon its completion.

We do not store the substance of your Input or Output in our database as part of the ordinary operation of the Service, and we do not use your Input to train, fine-tune, evaluate or improve any model. Processing necessarily involves transmission to and handling by Third-Party Providers, whose own retention practices are described in our Privacy Policy and are governed by their agreements with us. Nothing in this section is a guarantee against loss, interception or compromise; see sections 21 and 22.

You represent and warrant that you own, or are duly licensed to submit, every Input; that its submission and processing infringes no right of any third party and breaches no obligation of confidence; and that it contains no material you are prohibited from disclosing. You should not submit material whose disclosure would be materially harmful if it were, notwithstanding our measures, intercepted or exposed.

As between you and us, and to the extent that any right subsists in it, you own the Output generated from your Input, subject to these Terms and to the rights of any Third-Party Provider. We do not warrant that any Output is original, that it is free of resemblance to material generated for another user or published elsewhere, or that its use will not infringe the rights of a third party. You must satisfy yourself of that before you use it.

19. Our Intellectual Property

The Service, and every element of it other than your Input, including its software, models, engines, heuristics, thresholds, lexicons, prompts, pipelines, interfaces, designs, text, graphics, logos, trade marks and trade dress, is and remains our property or that of our licensors, and is protected by copyright, trade mark, database and other laws.

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to access and use the Service for its intended purpose during the term of this agreement. All rights not expressly granted are reserved. Nothing in these Terms transfers any right of ownership to you.

You may submit suggestions, ideas or feedback. We may use them without restriction, attribution or compensation, and you assign to us all rights in any such submission, or, where assignment is not effective, grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to exploit it.

If you believe material accessible through the Service infringes your copyright, notify us at the address in section 30 with sufficient particulars to identify the work, the material complained of, your contact details, and a statement of your good-faith belief and of the accuracy of your notice. We will respond as required by Applicable Law.

20. Third-Party Providers and Dependencies

The Service depends upon Third-Party Providers, including model providers, hosting and database providers, authentication providers, bot-mitigation providers and the payment processor. Their availability, performance, pricing, policies and continued existence are outside our control.

We are not responsible or liable for any act, omission, outage, degradation, price change, policy change, data handling, security incident or discontinuation on the part of any Third-Party Provider, nor for any consequence to you arising from one. We may substitute, add or remove Third-Party Providers at any time without notice, and such a change may alter the behaviour or quality of Output.

Any link from the Service to a third-party site or resource is provided for convenience only and does not constitute endorsement. Your dealings with any third party are solely between you and that third party.

21. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is"

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SERVICE, THE OUTPUT AND ALL RELATED MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, STATUTORY OR OTHERWISE. WE EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND ANY WARRANTY ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING, COURSE OF PERFORMANCE OR USAGE OF TRADE.

Without limiting the foregoing, we do not warrant, represent or undertake that:

  • the Output will be accurate, truthful, complete, current, reliable, original, coherent, lawful, appropriate or fit for any purpose;
  • the Output will be free of fabrication. Generative language models produce fluent text without regard to truth, and routinely invent facts, statistics, events, quotations, citations, authorities, case law, legislation, studies, authors, publications, identifiers and links which do not exist and are presented indistinguishably from correct material. This behaviour, commonly called hallucination, is an inherent characteristic of the underlying technology, is not a defect in the Service, and cannot be eliminated;
  • any detection score, verdict or highlight will be correct, stable, reproducible or consistent with any other tool, at any time;
  • text processed by the Humanizer will pass, avoid, defeat, satisfy or be treated in any particular way by any detector, filter, screening system, Institution or person, now or in the future;
  • the meaning, factual content, citations, figures, formatting, structure or nuance of your Input will be preserved by any transformation;
  • the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, error-free, available in your territory, or free of viruses or harmful components;
  • defects will be corrected, or that any particular feature, engine, model or Plan will continue to be offered;
  • use of the Service or of any Output complies with the rules of any Institution, or with any law applicable to you.

No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained from us or through the Service, creates any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms. Where Applicable Law does not permit the exclusion of an implied warranty, that exclusion applies to the fullest extent permitted and the warranty is limited in duration to the shortest period permitted by that law.

You acknowledge that you are a competent adult exercising independent judgement; that the Output is a draft and not a finished product; and that you will review, verify and, where necessary, correct every Output before relying upon it, publishing it, submitting it or acting upon it. You assume all risk arising from any failure to do so.

22. Limitation of Liability

Our liability is limited

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE, OUR OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, SUPPLIERS OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, GOODWILL, REPUTATION, OPPORTUNITY, ACADEMIC STANDING, EMPLOYMENT, DATA OR ANTICIPATED SAVINGS, HOWEVER CAUSED AND ON ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHERWISE, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, we shall have no liability whatsoever arising out of or in connection with:

  • any error, omission, fabrication, hallucination, invented citation, invented authority or other inaccuracy in any Output, or any reliance placed upon it by you or by any person to whom you communicate it;
  • any harm, loss, injury, offence, embarrassment, distress or damage caused by Output, whether to you or to any third party;
  • any decision, assessment, allegation, investigation, finding, sanction, penalty, grade, dismissal, retraction, rejection or other action taken by any Institution or person, whether in reliance on Output or otherwise;
  • any detection or non-detection of any text by any tool, ours or another's, at any time;
  • any breach by you of any rule, code, policy, contract or law, including any code of academic or professional integrity;
  • any loss, corruption, interception, unauthorised access to, or disclosure of any Input or Output;
  • any act, omission, outage, security incident, pricing decision or discontinuation of any Third-Party Provider, including the payment processor;
  • any unavailability, interruption, degradation, latency, queueing or model substitution affecting the Service;
  • any suspension or termination of your Account in accordance with these Terms.

Our aggregate liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, shall not in any event exceed the greater of (a) the total amount actually paid by you to Traceless Writer in the three (3) months immediately preceding the event first giving rise to the claim, and (b) fifty United States dollars (US$50.00). Where you have paid us nothing, our aggregate liability shall not exceed fifty United States dollars (US$50.00).

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability which cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Where Applicable Law does not permit some part of this section, that part applies to the fullest extent permitted and the remainder is unaffected.

The allocation of risk in this section and in section 21 is a fundamental element of the basis of the bargain between us, and reflects the price at which the Service is offered. The Service would not be offered on these terms without it. These limitations apply even if a limited remedy is found to have failed of its essential purpose.

Any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service must be commenced within one (1) year after the cause of action accrues, or within the shortest period permitted by Applicable Law if longer; thereafter it is permanently barred.

23. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Traceless Writer, our officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, suppliers and licensors from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, proceedings, liabilities, damages, losses, judgments, fines, penalties, costs and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in connection with: (a) your use of the Service; (b) any Input you submit or Output you use, publish, submit or distribute; (c) your breach of these Terms or of any representation or warranty in them; (d) your breach of any rule, policy, code or contract of any Institution; (e) your violation of any Applicable Law or of the rights of any third party; or (f) any dispute between you and any third party, including any Institution.

We reserve the right, at our own expense, to assume the exclusive defence and control of any matter otherwise subject to indemnification by you, in which event you will cooperate with us. You will not settle any matter affecting us without our prior written consent.

24. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate your Account and your access to the Service, in whole or in part, immediately and without prior notice, where we reasonably consider that you have breached these Terms; where your use presents a risk to us, to another user, or to a Third-Party Provider; where required by Applicable Law or by a Third-Party Provider; or where your Account has been dormant for an extended period.

Termination for breach forfeits any remaining Allowance and any unexpired portion of a paid Billing Period, without refund. Where we terminate for convenience rather than for breach, and you hold an unexpired paid Billing Period, we will at our discretion either allow access to run to the end of that period or provide a credit; this is the sole exception to section 9 and is at our discretion, not on demand.

You may terminate at any time by cancelling your Plan and, if you wish, deleting your Account. Sections 9, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 27 and 29, together with any other provision which by its nature should survive, survive termination.

25. Privacy and Data Protection

Our handling of personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. In summary: we hold the minimum necessary to operate an account and a meter, your email address, an optional display name, your Plan, your usage counts and your payment references. We do not retain the substance of your Inputs or Outputs, and we do not store raw IP addresses.

Where you submit personal data relating to another person as part of an Input, you act as the controller of that data and warrant that you have a lawful basis for doing so. We act as a processor in respect of it and only for the duration of the processing.

No method of transmission or storage is entirely secure. While we take reasonable technical and organisational measures, we cannot and do not guarantee the absolute security of any information, and we disclaim liability for unauthorised access to, or interception of, any transmission to the extent permitted by Applicable Law.

26. Changes to these Terms

We may amend these Terms from time to time. The version in force is the one published within the Service, identified by the version and effective date shown at its head.

Where an amendment is material, we will present the amended Terms to you and require your acceptance before you continue to use the Service. Where an amendment is not material, the correction of a typographical error, a clarification that does not alter substance, it takes effect upon publication.

Your continued use of the Service after an amendment has taken effect constitutes acceptance of it. If you do not accept an amendment, your remedy is to stop using the Service and to cancel your Plan; consistently with section 9, that produces no refund.

27. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter or formation, whether contractual or non-contractual, are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe, without regard to any conflict-of-laws rule that would apply the law of another jurisdiction. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

You and we irrevocably submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Zimbabwe in respect of any such dispute or claim, save that we may seek injunctive or equitable relief in any competent court to protect our intellectual property or to restrain a breach of section 13.

Before commencing any proceeding, you agree to notify us in writing at legal@tracelesswriter.com, setting out the nature of the dispute and the relief sought, and to negotiate in good faith for a period of thirty (30) days. This requirement does not apply to an application for urgent interim relief.

Any claim must be brought in an individual capacity. To the maximum extent permitted by Applicable Law, you waive any right to bring or participate in a class, collective, consolidated or representative action, and no arbitrator or court may consolidate the claims of more than one person. Nothing in this section deprives a consumer of any right to bring proceedings in the courts of their place of residence where Applicable Law confers that right and it may not be waived.

28. Force Majeure

We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performing any obligation under these Terms to the extent that it results from a cause beyond our reasonable control, including act of God, flood, fire, earthquake, epidemic or pandemic, war, terrorism, civil disorder, industrial action, embargo, sanction, governmental or regulatory action, failure of electricity, telecommunications or internet infrastructure, denial-of-service attack, or the failure, degradation, withdrawal or insolvency of any Third-Party Provider. Our obligations are suspended for the duration of such an event.

29. General Provisions

(a) Entire agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any document expressly incorporated by reference, constitute the entire agreement between you and us in respect of the Service and supersede all prior or contemporaneous understandings, communications, proposals and representations, whether oral or written. Each party acknowledges that it has not relied upon any statement not set out in these Terms, save that nothing excludes liability for fraudulent misrepresentation.

(b) Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, illegal or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to render it enforceable, or, if modification is not possible, severed, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

(c) No waiver

No failure or delay by us in exercising any right or remedy operates as a waiver of it, and no single or partial exercise precludes any further exercise. A waiver is effective only if given in writing and applies only to the instance for which it is given.

(d) Assignment

You may not assign, transfer, charge or subcontract any of your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, without restriction, including in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganisation or sale of assets.

(e) No third-party rights

These Terms do not confer any right or benefit upon any person other than you and us, save that our officers, employees, contractors, agents, suppliers and licensors may enforce sections 21, 22 and 23.

(f) Relationship of the parties

Nothing in these Terms creates any partnership, joint venture, agency, franchise, employment or fiduciary relationship between you and us.

(g) Electronic communications

You consent to receive communications from us electronically, and agree that every notice, disclosure, agreement and record delivered electronically satisfies any legal requirement that it be in writing. You are responsible for maintaining a working email address on your Account; a communication sent to the address on record is deemed received.

(h) Language

These Terms are drawn up in English. Any translation is provided for convenience only, and in the event of any inconsistency the English text prevails.

30. How to Contact Us

Questions about the Service, about a payment, or about these Terms should be raised through the support form within the Service, which is the fastest route and creates a record both of us can refer to. Alternatively:

  • General and billing support, support@tracelesswriter.com
  • Legal notices, disputes and copyright, legal@tracelesswriter.com
  • Privacy and data-protection requests, privacy@tracelesswriter.com

We aim to acknowledge support enquiries within two business days. That aim is a statement of intent and not a contractual service level.

This document is provided in good faith and in plain sight. It is not legal advice, and it does not describe your rights under the law of your own country, which may give you protections that no agreement can take away.
